A Rare Promising Ayurvedic herb to treat Diabetes.

Updated: Feb 13

Diabetes - Is a group of metabolic disease in which the person has high blood glucose (blood sugar), either because insulin production is inadequate, or because the body’s cells do not respond properly to insulin, or both.

It is a metabolic disorder of multiple etiologies characterized by chronic hyperglycemia with disturbance of carbohydrate, fat, and protein metabolism. This can be because of the body’s inability to produce enough insulin due to destruction of pancreatic beta cells and beta cell deficiency.

Insulin - helps blood sugar enter the body's cells so it can be used for energy.

It also affects other metabolic processes such as the breakdown of fats, proteins and carbs

Insulin is a hormone that controls the amount of glucose in your bloodstream at any given moment.

India is home to 77 million diabetics, second highest in the world : Diabetics is one of this century's most significant global health emergencies, ranking among the ten leading causes of mortality and cardiovascular disease (CVD), respiratory disease and cancer.

There are currently close to 80 million people with diabetes in India and this number is expected to increase to 135 million by 2045.

CURCUMA CAESIA - BLACK TURMERIC

An Ayurvedic herb to treat Diabetes, Curcuma caesia, also known as black turmeric or Kali haldi, is a rarest variety of turmeric that is native to India & Southeast Asia and is a perennial herb with bluish-black rhizome. It has traditionally been used in Ayurvedic medicine for its various health benefits. The rhizome of black turmeric has a high importance owing to its supposed medicinal properties.

Black Turmeric showed antidiabetic activity by lowering blood glucose .The extracts can reduce the potential glycation of en-zymes or they may reduce reactive oxygen free radicals and improve the activities of antioxidant enzymes. The extract has effective antioxidant activities, by successfully scavenging free radicals .The histopathological studies of pancreas showed gradual healing after treatment.

  1. Reducing inflammation : Chronic inflammation is linked to the development of type 2 diabetes, and Black Turmeric has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects that helps improve insulin sensitivity and glucose metabolism.

  2. Improving insulin sensitivity : Insulin resistance is another root of type 2 diabetes, and Black Turmeric has been shown to improve insulin sensitivity in animal and human studies.

  3. Lowering blood glucose levels : Some studies have suggested that Black Turmeric may have hypoglycemic effects, meaning that it may help to lower blood glucose levels.

When our food is digested, the glucose makes its way into our bloodstream. Our cells use the glucose for energy and growth. However, glucose cannot enter our cells without insulin being present - insulin makes it possible for our cells to take in the glucose. Insulin is a hormone that is produced by the pancreas. After eating, the pancreas automatically releases an adequate quantity of insulin to move the glucose present in our blood into the cells, as soon as glucose enters the cells blood-glucose levels drop.

Research Has proven that Curcuma Caesia (Black Turmeric) regenerates Beta - cells which are responsible for producing Insulin thus naturally utilizing the glucose present in the body. Black turmeric also proved to be quite effective in reducing oxidative stress in the body by virtue of its antioxidant property.

Conclusion :

Black Turmeric showed antidiabetic activity besides that also proved to be quite effective in reducing oxidative stress in the body by virtue of its antioxidant property.
